General Herkimer at the Battle of Oriskany

Painting: General Herkimer at the Battle of Oriskany.

This spirited painting of General Herkimer at the Battle of Oriskany shows the wounded General in a post of danger directing his troops and the battle to a victorious issue. This bloody conflict in the forest of Oriskany is said to have been the turning point of the Revolution. It was fought nine miles west of Utica, August 7, 1777. The painting is by Fred C. Yohn and is owned by Mr. Frederick T. Proctor of Utica. It hangs on the walls of the Utica Public Library.
