Photo: Statue of General Herkimer, the Hero of Oriskany
The statue stands in Meyer's Park, Herkimer, and represents the Brigadier-General of the Tryon County Militia seated on his saddle, smoking his pipe and directing his Mohawk Valley farmer-soldiers at the battle of Oriskany, after he had been mortally wounded in the first attack. Mr. Burr Miller was the sculptor of this spirited statue which was presented by ex-United States Senator Warner Miller to Herkimer on the occasion of its centennial as a village in 1907.
