Dr. Walter Sterling Pugh, engaged in the general practice of medicine in Utica, his native city, is widely recognized as an able young physician and surgeon who is destined for pronounced success in his chosen profession. He was born on the 28th of May, 1896, the son of William Sterling and Alice Elizabeth (Walter) Pugh. Walter Sterling Pugh received his early education in the Utica Free Academy and from 1913 until 1916 attended the University of Michigan as a student in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts. In further preparation for a professional career he entered the medical department of Syracuse University, from which institution he was graduated with the degree of M. D. in 1921. He next served as interne in the Buffalo City Hospital until July, 1922, and then began the private practice of medicine in Utica, where he has remained to the present time. Dr. Pugh has been very successful in the treatment of the cases that have come under his care, and owing to the sureness and precision of his work, his practice has increased rapidly. He is serving on the staff of St. Luke's Hospital and the State Hospital and is a member of the Oneida County Medical Society, the New York State Medical Society, and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Pugh was married to Miss Margaret F. O'Reilly of Syracuse, on September 3, 1924. Dr. Pugh votes with the republican party but otherwise is not active in politics. A college student during the period of the World war, he became a member of the Medical Reserve Corps and now belongs to the American Legion. He has also joined the University Club and is a popular young citizen of Utica who has already gained a creditable reputation in professional ranks.
