Dr. Ward Allen Minor, physician and surgeon, was born in Jefferson, Schoharie county, New York, in 1867, one of two children born to George B. and Emma (Ferguson) Minor. The family removed from Schoharie county to Utica about 1894. In early life George B. Minor was a farmer but afterward practiced veterinary surgery until his death in August, 1923, at the age of eighty years. His wife, aged seventy-nine years, now resides with her daughter, Abbie T., the wife of George F. Murray of Utica.
Ward Allen Minor received his early education in the public schools in Jefferson, New York, then attended Stamford Seminary at Stamford, New York, where he was graduated in 1887. He then taught school and studied medicine for seven years, after which he attended the Eclectic Medical College, from which he was graduated in 1890, with the M. D. degree. Four years later he received his M. D. degree from the University of Baltimore, Maryland.
In 1917, in Utica, New York, Dr. Minor was united in marriage to Miss Betsy Bogert, a descendant of one of the early settlers of that section of the state. Mrs. Minor is a member of "B" Sharp Club and the Century Club, both of Utica. Dr. Minor is a member of the staff of Faxton Hospital, surgical division, and member of the state and county medical societies. He is a Mason and member of Liberty Lodge, Delhi Chapter and Rondout Commandery and of Mecca Temple, Shrine, New York city. He is also a member of the Exchange Club of Utica. During the World war Dr. Minor enlisted as first lieutenant in the Medical Corps but was not called. The political affiliations of Dr. Minor are with the republican party and for diversion he enjoys motoring and fishing.
