For sixteen years the medical skill of Dr. Raymond James Knapp has been at the service of Amsterdam's citizens and an extensive practice testifies to the confidence in which he is held and his standing in the community. He was born December 25, 1884, in West Schuyler, Herkimer county, New York, a son of George W. and Maria B. Knapp, and received his public school training at Frankfort, this state. He prepared for his profession in Syracuse University, from which he was graduated in 1907, with the M. D. degree, and for a year was an interne in the general hospital at Utica, New York. He opened an office in Amsterdam in 1908 and engaged in general practice until 1914, when he went to Vienna, Austria, for the purpose of studying diseases of the eye, ear, nose and throat, and also took post-graduate work along that line in New York city in 1915. Dr. Knapp is now specializing in this branch of medical science and has been very successful in his treatment of the cases intrusted to his care. He has a comprehensive understanding of the technicalities of his profession and correctly applies his knowledge to the needs of his patients.
On the 18th of March, 1914, Dr. Knapp was married to Miss Natalie Bennett, a daughter of Peter Henry Bennett of Amsterdam. In politics the doctor is a republican and he takes the interest of a good citizen in public affairs but has never sought office as a reward for party fealty. His fraternal connections are with the Masons and the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and he also belongs to the Antlers Country Club. He is a member of the Amsterdam City, Montgomery County, New York State and American Medical Associations and utilizes every opportunity to keep himself up to a high standard of efficiency in practice. He subordinates all other interests to the demands of his profession, and his work as a physician has been of great value and importance to his community.
