John Campbell is an expert automobile electrician who has built up a successful business in Utica in partnership with J. E. Breithaupt under the name of the Geneto Service Company, which he organized in 1918. He was born in Scotland on the 22d of August, 1877, his parents being John and Anna (Portis) Campbell. The father, who was a railroad man, emigrated to the United States in 1884 and took up his abode in Utica, New York, where he spent the remainder of his life, here passing away in 1914. It was in 1889, when a lad of twelve years, that John Campbell, Jr., crossed the Atlantic to America and joined his father in Utica, where he attended the public schools in the acquirement of an education. He obtained employment in Robert Fraser's department store when still a boy and had attained the age of nineteen when in 1896 he became associated with the Utica Fire Alarm Telegraph Company, in the service of which concern he learned the electrical business. In the year 1918, feeling that his capital and experience justified him in embarking in business on his own account, Mr. Campbell organized the Geneto Service Company for the conduct of an electrical repair shop and has since been accorded a gratifying patronage in this connection, for he has gained an enviable reputation for skill and efficiency in this line.

On the 5th of April, 1898, Mr. Campbell was united in marriage to Miss Amelia Rick, daughter of Henry Rick of Utica. Mr. and Mrs. Campbell have one child, Gladys Llewellyn, who was born in April, 1914. Mr. Campbell is a worthy exemplar of the teachings and purposes of the Masonic fraternity, belonging to Utica Lodge No. 47, F. & A. M.; Mohawk Valley Consistory, A. A. S. R.; and Ziyara Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S. He is also a member of the Scotch Thistle Club and serves as its president. In all of his business and social relations he is straightforward and reliable, enjoying the full confidence of those with whom he is associated.
