Martin J. A'Hearn, only child of Martin and Margaret (Sweeney) A'Hearn, was born at Saratoga Springs, New York, on March 20, 1888. His parents, both living, were born near Saratoga Springs, where his father was a mason contractor until he retired from active business.
Martin J. A'Hearn was educated in the public schools of Saratoga Springs, then entered Union University in Albany, New York, from which he was graduated in 1911, with the degree of M. D., and later took a number of postgraduate courses in New York city. After serving an interneship at the Homeopathic Hospital in Albany, Dr. A'Hearn began practice in Saratoga Springs, where he remained until he entered the service in June, 1917, as major in the Medical Corps, and also inspector on various general staffs forming national guard units for service. At the present time he is lieutenant colonel in the Reserves. He was released from active duty in November, 1919, then came to Utica, New York, and established practice, later becoming school physician for the Utica schools. He is a member of the staff of St. Luke's Hospital of his home city and a member of the state and county medical societies, and the American Medical Association. Dr. A'Hearn belongs to the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and is of the Catholic faith. For, diversion he is fond of baseball and athletics. By his high professional attainments and sterling characteristics Dr. A'Hearn has justified the respect and confidence of his many friends.
