In Building 269, some 500 employees of the Schenectady tube works - as a part of General Electric's vast Electronics Department with headquarters at Syracuse, N.Y. - are engaged in the manufacture of the most diversified line of Industrial and Transmitting tubes in the entire industry... In addition to this production, a group of trained engineers is constantly experimenting in the development of new and improved types of electronic tubes for application in the industrial and transmitting field.

[This skilled G. E. worker assembles and electronically welds tube grids. The tubes shown are used not only for aircraft communication purposes, but also for the warming of hot dogs and the roasting of coffee beans in automatic vending machines - 1x | 4x]

[An experienced exhaust-machine operator checks four stainless steel ignitron tubes during this particularly lone, carefully controlled process in the manufacture of G.E. Electronic Tubes. By heating these tubes to 1000 degrees centigrade, all residual gases are removed - 1x | 4x]

[Here's an example of just a few of the 40-odd elements which are used in the manufacture of G.E. Electronic Tubes. Tungsten filaments, wound with molybdenum wire, will be arc-welded in an hydrogen-filled bottle. And in the finished tube, the copper base will be gold plated for higher conductivity - 1x | 4x]
